Nativity Scenes – Belénes de Málaga are a highlight of the city’s Christmas season, turning Málaga into a festive playground for all ages. Scattered across the historic center, from City Hall to the Cathedral, each display tells the Nativity story with incredible detail, featuring hundreds of figurines, miniature landscapes, and moving elements that bring the scenes to life.
The City Hall Belén is a standout, showcasing a new theme every year with sound effects, flowing water, and intricate lighting—completely free to explore until January 6th. Meanwhile, the Cathedral hosts a grand display of over 400 figures, recreating biblical moments like the Annunciation, the Nativity, and the Flight into Egypt, blending religious tradition with Andalusian artistry.
Beyond these main sites, museums, neighborhood associations, and local brotherhoods create their own original Belénes, often handmade and brimming with charm. Wandering from one scene to the next is a magical way to experience Málaga’s holiday spirit, local creativity, and centuries-old festive traditions.
