Iglesia de San Sebastián, Mijas Pueblo

Address: Pl. de la Libertad, 5, 29650 Mijas, Málaga

Tucked along Calle Málaga in Mijas Pueblo, the whitewashed Iglesia de San Sebastián is easy to stroll past—but you shouldn’t. This 17th-century chapel blends understated elegance with deep-rooted local history, from its single nave and vaulted ceilings to the clock on its façade, added in 1902 for just over 2,000 pesetas.

Inside, the details are everything: acanthus leaf motifs, cherubic frescoes from the 18th century, and a quietly ornate altar that reflects centuries of devotion and design. It’s not a grand cathedral—it’s better. Intimate, beautifully preserved, and full of stories, it’s a perfect stop for lovers of architecture, history, or simply peaceful places.
