Address: 29650 Mijas, Málaga

Perched quietly above Mijas Pueblo, the Ermita del Calvario is one of those places that feels like a secret—until you see the view. Built in 1710 as a Carmelite retreat, it once served monks from the nearby convent (now the Ermita de la Virgen de la Peña). Today, it’s a peaceful escape with unbeatable panoramas of the white village and the coastline beyond.
The uphill trail to the chapel winds past a series of iron crosses, marking the Stations of the Cross used during Holy Week. Even if you’re not visiting during Lent (the only time it opens), the path alone is worth it. It’s part pilgrimage, part scenic hike, and fully rewarding.
