Address: Av. del Compás, 7, 29650 Mijas, Málaga

Just steps from the panoramic viewpoint El Compás, the Ermita de la Virgen de la Peña is one of Mijas Pueblo’s most unique spots—carved straight into the rock by a Carmelite monk in the 17th century. The cave-like interior is simple yet sacred, and houses the image of the Virgen de la Peña, the town’s patron saint. Entry is free, and it’s open daily, making it an easy but meaningful stop.
According to local legend, the Virgin was discovered in 1586 by two young shepherds, led to her hiding place by a mysterious dove. Whether you’re into history, miracles, or just curious architecture, this place hits all the right notes. Plus, the sweeping coastal views right outside the chapel are worth the visit alone.
