Tucked into Ronda’s dramatic El Tajo gorge, the Casa del Rey Moro is one of the city’s most fascinating—and underrated—historical sites. While the house itself is under restoration, what draws people here is what lies beneath: La Mina, a secret 14th-century staircase carved deep into the rock, used to access the Guadalevín River during times of siege. It’s part fortress, part feat of medieval engineering—and a serious leg day workout.
After the climb, reward yourself in the serene hillside garden above. Designed in 1912 by renowned French landscape architect Jean-Claude Nicolas Forestier, this Mediterranean-inspired green space combines elegant terraces, Moorish flair, and jaw-dropping views over the gorge.
