Casa de Murillo Museum Seville

Address: C. Sta. Teresa, 8, Casco Antiguo, 41004 Sevilla | Santa Cruz

Casa de Murillo is a peaceful and understated spot that once housed the great Baroque painter Bartolomé Esteban Murillo in the final years of his life. Located in a whitewashed house typical of the Santa Cruz district, the space pays quiet tribute to a figure whose works still dominate the Museo de Bellas Artes. While the museum doesn’t currently have a permanent collection, it serves as a cultural venue for temporary exhibitions, lectures, and events tied to Sevillian heritage and visual arts. The charm of Casa de Murillo lies in its simplicity—it’s more about the atmosphere and legacy than grand displays.

As you step inside, you’re greeted by an Andalusian courtyard with orange trees and classic ceramic tilework, setting a calm, reflective tone. The museum’s upper rooms are occasionally used for academic talks or intimate exhibitions, making it more of a cultural space than a full museum. It’s not essential for every visitor, but for art lovers, historians, or those following the Murillo trail through Seville, it’s a meaningful and personal experience. Being in Santa Cruz, it’s a lovely detour between the Alcázar and hidden tapas bars. Not particularly kid-focused, but romantic in its quiet elegance.
