Bahía de Cádiz Natural Park is where coastal wild meets cultural depth. Tucked between Cádiz, San Fernando, Chiclana, Puerto Real, and El Puerto de Santa María, this sprawling 10,500-hectare wetland is one of Europe’s most vital bird migration corridors—second only to Doñana. From tidal marshes and oyster-studded mudflats to forgotten salt pans and pine-scented dunes, it’s a natural mosaic shaped over millennia by wind, sea, and the Guadalete River.
This is birdwatching on a grand scale. Over 150 aquatic bird species stop here to nest, rest, or fuel up en route to Africa—flamingos, little terns, spoonbills, ospreys, and more. But it’s not just about wildlife. The park hides Phoenician-era salt mines, tidal mills, and remnants of Cádiz’s pre-Roman past. Hike the Sendero Tres Amigos–Río Arillo, paddle through quiet estuaries, or picnic by abandoned salt houses—there’s history beneath every ripple.
