Every November, the small village of Pujerra in the Serranía de Ronda transforms into a chestnut lover’s dream during the Fiesta de la Castaña. Nestled between the towering chestnut and pine forests of the Genal Valley, this festival celebrates the rich harvest and the deep connection the locals have with the land. It’s a time for the community to come together, with music, dancing, and the delicious aroma of roasted chestnuts filling the air.
The festival is a true feast for the senses—over 50 chestnut dishes are served, often paired with anise or brandy for that extra touch of local flavor. Visitors can sample traditional tostones (roasted chestnuts) and sip on mistela, a sweet, spiced liqueur made with aguardiente, almonds, and coffee. Beyond the food, there are displays of traditional chestnut-harvesting tools and clothing, offering a fascinating glimpse into the local history. It’s a warm, rustic celebration where the spirit of autumn comes alive, drawing locals and visitors together to savor the best of the season.
