The Carrera de Cintas a Caballo (Ribbon Race on Horseback) is a captivating medieval tradition that brings the streets of Fuente de Piedra to life each September. Celebrated during the festivities of the village’s patron saint, this event honors centuries-old customs, with roots in the chivalric tournaments of the Middle Ages. Knights would compete to impress ladies by placing a spear through metal rings hanging from ribbons—a thrilling challenge that still takes place today, with riders aiming to pierce the ribbon with precision and skill.
As part of the spectacle, a colorful procession of horse-drawn carts parades through the village, picking up the “manolas” (ladies) who will be presented with the ribbons. The atmosphere is vibrant, filled with local tradition, music, and lively celebrations. Whether you’re a fan of history, horseback riding, or simply enjoy unique cultural experiences, this festival offers a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the charm of Andalusia while witnessing an unforgettable display of bravery and grace.
