La Noche de San Juan / Night of San Juan 2026

Confirmed Date: June 23rd 2026

La Noche de San Juan, celebrated on June 23rd, is one of Spain’s most magical nights, marking the summer solstice with fire, music, and tradition. Originating from ancient pagan rituals, the event is a celebration of light, life, and the power of nature. Thousands gather along Spain’s coast, in places like Málaga, Cádiz, and Almuñécar, to jump over bonfires, take a midnight dip in the sea, and enjoy the vibrant street parties. It’s a night of renewal, where the flames symbolize purification and good luck for the year ahead.

The symbolic burning of effigies (known as júas) represents cleansing and renewal. It’s one of the few nights beaches are open all night, creating a unique communal vibe. One of the key rituals is the ritual of jumping over bonfires to ward off evil spirits and bring good fortune. People also write their wishes on pieces of paper and burn them in the flames, while others gather to dance around the fire and enjoy live music.
