Castillo de las Guardas, Seville

Address: Finca Herrerías Bajas, s/n – Ctra. A-476, Km. 6,820., 41890

Hidden in the rugged hills just an hour outside Seville, the Reserva Natural Castillo de las Guardas delivers full-on safari vibes without leaving Spain. Set in an old open-cast mine turned wildlife haven, it’s home to over 1,000 animals from five continents—zebras, lions, giraffes, and even hippos—all roaming semi-free through the Andalusian countryside.

Hop on a guided 4×4 or take your own car through the park’s drive-thru safari route, stopping to feed curious animals along the way. It’s 100% kid-friendly but also surprisingly fun and romantic for couples into offbeat, nature-connected experiences. The park also has zip lines, paddle boats, and shaded picnic areas, so you can turn it into a full-day adventure.

What makes this place extra cool is its origin story—what was once an industrial site has been rewilded into one of Spain’s largest nature reserves. It’s a great example of environmental renewal, and with regular conservation and education programs, your visit directly supports species protection.
