If you’re the kind of traveler who loves a stay with stories in the walls, Áurea Casa Palacio Sagasta in Cádiz delivers all the historic drama—with modern-day comfort. Set in the heart of the old town, this beautifully restored 18th-century Baroque palace once hosted British diplomats during the Peninsular War and later became home to a prominent sailor-politician. Today, it’s a boutique gem with grand staircases, a classic central patio, and one of the city’s largest lookout towers—hello, rooftop views.
The vibe here is part aristocratic daydream, part laid-back Cádiz charm. Each of the 38 rooms is unique, with views over Calle Sagasta or Callejón del Tinte—a carnival hotspot with serious local flavor. It’s romantic, but also a great base for solo explorers or families into culture and heritage. After a day of wandering the nearby Cathedral, tapas bars, or vintage shops, unwind with a treatment in the wellness area and imagine what it felt like to live here in 1808. Spoiler: it probably wasn’t this comfortable.
